The All-Sufficient Name of Jesus

The All-Sufficient Name of Jesus

This post was recorded and shared on YouTube. The url to the video has been attached here just in case you’d like to check it out on YouTube, which I would encourage you do. But notwithstanding, I still deem it fit to bring to you the article on this special topic. It is one you wouldn’t want to miss out on. ‘The All-Sufficient Name of Jesus’

The name of Jesus is powerful.

The name of Jesus sets free.

That is why I’m bringing this word to you, to reveal the secret that is behind that name, so that we can start appropriating the wonders in the name of Jesus.

As you read through, I pray this word blesses you in Jesus’ name, Amen.

The All-Sufficient Name of Jesus.

Philippians 2:9-11 KJV

“Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:

[10] That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

[11] And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

From the text above, it says,

“Wherefore, God also hath highly exalted him…”

So, the name of Jesus is an exalted name. It is not just another name. But one that is recognised in heaven, in the earth, and underneath the earth.

When I meditated on that verse, “Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him…” I began to wonder what inspired the Father to give him that name. Like what prompted it?

I then began to ponder about the person of Jesus, and one thing I could say or see is a life that truly mirrored the Life of God to mankind. During his earthly days, he didn’t just come to die. Yes, the goal was to die the death of the cross for the sin of mankind, but there was something crucial he needed to reveal to us before that death, and that is the life of God.

So, before he died, he first lived. He modelled a lifestyle we are expected to live after we have received the end product of why he came to die.

The life of God he mirrored to us was not automatic. He came in the flesh. The Bible says, “And the Word was made flesh…” Not only so, scripture revealed that he was in all points tempted just like we are, yet without sin. So, if Christ could endure the hardship, the contradictions, the misunderstandings, the accusations, the self denial; if he could love sacrificially, and ultimately, still died a painful death on the cross, then it becomes clear why the Father exalted him and gave him a name that is above every other name, that at the name of Jesus, every knee should bow.

What is this trying to reveal to us?

This means that the name of Jesus is a name that is deeply rooted in sacrifice. In other words, when we mention the name of Jesus, we are not just calling a name. We are calling upon a sacrifice.

When we mention that name, JESUS, we are not just calling a name, we are;

‘Laying claim’ to a sacrifice.

When that name, JESUS is mentioned, we are not just calling a name, we are Activating a sacrifice.

When that name JESUS is called upon, we are not just calling a name, but we are Engaging a sacrifice.

We are, Drawing upon a sacrifice.

We are, Appealing to a sacrifice…

And that causes a reaction.

Calling upon the name of Jesus causes the Father to remember the sacrifice of his Son, He looks down on the one calling that name. You know what he’s looking for? He is looking for his Son in the life of that individual. If he doesn’t find his Son present in that life, then there is no legal grounds for what that person is trying to participate in.

So, the name of Jesus is more than a name. It is a form of participation.

In Acts 19:13, seven sons of one Sceva took it upon themselves to call on the name of Jesus over demon possessed men. They wanted to drive out the evil spirit out of the man in the name of Jesus, but they don’t have any relationship with that name. They only made reference to it.

They said, “…We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.”

Demons recognise the authority in the name of Jesus and could have fled if they had seen the Son reflected in the lives of those men, but they didn’t.

So they asked,

“Jesus we know and Paul we know. But who are ye?”

These men were trying to lay claim to a sacrifice they have no participation in. Neither could their prayers be answered because the Father looked down on them and saw no living sacrifice upon their altar— their hearts.

But Leviticus 17:11 says,

“For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.”

“…for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.”

The hearts of these men was devoid of The Blood.

The reason for the power in the name of Jesus lies in his life of sacrifice. It is a life of obedience. And for us to have power with God in the name of Jesus, our own lives must reflect a life of total surrender to the will of the Father.

As the Son mirrored the life of the Father to us, we are to mirror the Life of the Son in us. This is the sacrifice that pleases God. But if our life shows no surrenderedness to the will of the Father, or if our lifestyle does not reflect his Son, then the name of Jesus cannot be all-sufficient in our life because that would be laying claim to a sacrifice we are not actively participating in.
