A Deep Reflection on the Love of Christ

Today, around 33 AD, our Saviour fulfilled the ultimate price for our redemption on a rugged Roman cross outside the walls of Jerusalem. This was not just an execution—it was a divine exchange. The sinless Son of God took upon Himself the sin of humanity. It was not the nails that held Him to the cross—it was love.

Love drove Him to Gethsemane, where His soul was crushed with the weight of what He was about to bear. Love led Him silently through false accusations, violent beatings, and mocking soldiers. Love kept Him from calling twelve legions of angels to stop the suffering. Love made Him endure the scourging that tore His back and the thorns that pierced His head.

Isaiah wrote centuries earlier, “He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.” That sorrow was ours. That grief was ours. But He bore it all. With every lash, He said, “I love you.” With every step toward Calvary, He declared, “You are worth it.”

On the cross, He uttered, “It is finished.” That was not defeat. That was declaration. Sin was paid for in full. The veil was torn, heaven’s door opened, and man’s hope restored. We, the guilty, were justified. We, the distant, were drawn near. We, the condemned, were now called sons.

The deliverance of the New Testament believer is not fragile—it is secured in blood. We do not plead for God’s love—we stand in it. We do not strive for acceptance—we begin from it. Our salvation is not a future hope, but a present reality sealed by the costliest gift: the life of Jesus.

Even now, His love is not past tense. It flows through every breath we take, every prayer we whisper, every grace we receive. We are delivered—past, present, and future—because Love stretched out His arms and embraced the cross for us.

Don’t let the sacrifice of Jesus become a familiar story. Today, find a quiet place, and read John 19 slowly. Picture Him. Hear the crowd. See the Blood. Let the reality of His love overwhelm you again. Write a love letter back to Him, expressing your gratitude. And ask: “Am I living a life worthy of this sacrifice?”

Prayer: “Lord Jesus, how can I ever comprehend the depth of Your love? You saw me in my sin, my weakness, my rebellion—and You chose the cross. Thank You for bearing my shame, enduring my punishment, and purchasing my freedom. Let my life always reflect the weight of that sacrifice. Let me never grow cold to the wonder of Your love. Help me live, move, and serve from the place of Your finished work. I love You, because You first loved me. In Your holy name, Amen.”
