His Burial, A Sign of Our Deliverance from the Grave

Matthew 12:40
“For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.”

“And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.” —Colossians 2:15

His Burial, A Sign of Our Deliverance from the Grave

About 2,000 years ago, something terrifying happened in the spirit realm—but not for us. It was terrifying for the devil and the powers of darkness. While the world mourned the burial of Jesus of Nazareth, something was shifting in the unseen. The body of our Saviour lay in Joseph’s tomb, still and pierced, but His Spirit had descended beyond the grave.

Jesus did not merely die for our sins—He entered the depths of death to strip it of its grip on humanity. Scripture says He went to the heart of the earth. There, in the realm of the dead, He confronted the one who had held the power of death—the devil (Hebrews 2:14). The burial of Christ was not a passive moment—it was warfare. It was deliverance in action.

He took the keys. He didn’t beg for them. He didn’t negotiate. As the rightful King, He demanded them. In the face of every accusation written against us, Jesus displayed the full payment of His blood. He tore up the charges and made a public example of every demonic power that thought it had won.

Picture that: Christ entering the dungeon of death—not as a captive, but as a Conqueror. He led captivity captive (Ephesians 4:8). He broke into the devil’s dominion and unlocked the chains that bound us to sin, shame, and eternal separation. Every dark whisper that told you “you are not free” lost its voice that day.

When He rose on the third day, it wasn’t just life returning to His body—it was the announcement of our eternal liberty. Death lost its sting. The grave lost its victory. And the accuser lost his case. The burial of Christ became the burial of our bondage.

And now, because He was buried and rose, we no longer live under fear, shame, condemnation, or death. Eternal life isn’t just about living forever—it’s about living delivered from every grip of the enemy. The very place where death thought it would silence Him became His pulpit of triumph.

Today, walk with the boldness of someone whose debt has been fully paid. Remind your soul that your deliverance is not partial—it is complete. Whatever accusation the enemy brings to your mind, answer with this: “My Deliverer descended into death for me—and He took the keys.”

Prayer: “Lord Jesus, thank You for not only dying for me, but for going to the deepest place to fight what I could not see. Thank You for entering the stronghold of the enemy and emerging victorious for my sake. Because of Your burial and resurrection, I am delivered, I am free, and I am secure forever. Help me live in that truth, boldly and fearlessly. Amen.”
