The God kind of fear brings His covenant of life and peace

There are two kinds of fear. The first a godly fear – reverential, and the other, devilish – tormenting. Receiving the first is the beginning to getting freedom from the other

From the foregoing, it’s already clear that the word fear can be seen from two angles – in the positive, as well also in the negative. Though it is known naturally for the negative – the natural idea that comes to one’s mind when the word is used – but if anyone possesses the God kind of fear today, such person will be free from the other – the devilish, tormenting fear. I’ll highlight two secrets or privileges, for having this God kind of fear

It is God’s covenant of life and peace

God's covenant
“My covenant was with him of life and peace; and I give him for the fear wherewith he feared me and was afraid before my name.”

You’re bringing God closer to you the moment you have His fear in you. One might wonder, why would God delight in men who tremble and fear him? Is it supposed to be? The fear of God in the life of a man is not tormenting nor oppressing, it is one that brings life when a man recognizes the supremacy of God, obeys and honour Him by his actions and decisions

In the verse above, God was referring to the sons of Levi. He chose the Levites to be his priest forever, meaning that the priesthood (office of the priest) must come from them. Not only so, God chose them to be His own inheritance. Why was it so? It all started in the wilderness. Remember when the children of Israel went into idolatry after Moses had gone up to God upon mount Sinai to receive the tables of testimony? Moses, on getting near to the camp saw what the people had done, and in anger, he broke the testimony. It was after this that he made a call, “WHO IS ON THE LORD’S SIDE? LET HIM COME UNTO ME” – and the sons of Levi came forward. This was the beginning of their entering in into a covenant with God, because they feared God and trembled at his word. While others stayed back and watched, they took a bold step to serve the Lord – God gave them his covenant of life and peace

A Book of Remembrance will be opened

Book of remembrance
“Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD harkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that though upon his name. And they shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him” – Malachi 3:16, 17

A book of remembrance is opened for those that fear the Lord, and also they will court His mercy in the day of his hot displeasure upon the earth. As a man spares his own son, so would all those that fear God be spared on that day.

Receiving the God kind of fear means knowing God first and having him dwell in your heart. His presence in a man’s life drives away anything that opposes in that life and with Him you can surmount the other kind of fear that comes from the devil. “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear (devilish fear); but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” – 2 Timothy 1:

Are you living in fear? Perhaps. Reverential fear comes from above and it leaves you with no torment, but rather, an assurance of life and peace in your heart. If this is not the case in your life, it then mean that the other exist in your life, which is tormenting, slavish and damning. Making peace with God like the sons of Levi in the wilderness after realising their sin, can bring God’s covenant of life and peace to you, and a book of remembrance will be opened for you in Heaven
