Salvation: A Package, Not an Item

Salvation, as presented in the New Testament, is not a singular event or isolated gift but a comprehensive divine package encompassing distinct yet inseparable components which is both new life (regeneration) and identity (naming through baptism).

Titus 2:11 reveals that “…the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men.” delivering to the believer both the new life in Christ and a covenantal identity sealed through baptism. Hence, the Salvation package safeguards and transmits to the believer the fullness of God’s redemptive plan. By receiving it, the believer partakes not only in the gift itself (new life and identity) but also receives the design which preserves, protects, and fulfills that gift. Thus, Paul asserts, “And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power” (Colossians 2:10 KJV)

The Content of Salvation’s Package

The completeness of the believer in receiving the salvation package unfolds in two core aspects:

1. New Life (Regeneration or Circumcision of Christ):

In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ. (Colossians 2:11).

Here, the believer experiences an inward transformation–a putting off of the body of sin through the spiritual circumcision performed by Christ Himself, signifying the rebirth and the becoming of a new creation in Him. This transformation is wrought by the Holy Spirit–a putting off of the old nature and the reception of divine life.

2. Identity (Baptismal Union/Naming):

Buried with him (God the Son) in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him (God the Father) through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him (God the Holy Ghost), having forgiven you all trespasses ~ Colossians 2:12-13

After receiving the new life through the inner working of the Holy Spirit, the believer is united with the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ through baptism. This sacramental act confers not only a symbolic cleansing but a real participation in the redemptive work of the triune God: buried with the Son, raised by the Father, and quickened together with the Holy Spirit–affirming the believer’s new identity within the body of Christ.

Hence, the component of salvation include:

New Life / Regeneration (Circumcision) AND Baptismal Identity, together forming an indivisible whole ordained protected plan by divine wisdom.

Therefore, salvation, rightly understood, is not a fragmented gift but a composite package in which God’s grace both bestows and preserves the fullness of life and identity in Christ. It is this integrated plan that makes the believer truly complete in Him.

To receive new life while rejecting baptism is analogous to a newly born refusing to be named. The child remains alive but lacks covenantal identity and belonging. Thus, the command of Christ.

“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”
~ Matthew 28:19-20
