What is the best gift man will ever receive?

There is an interesting story told about England’s Queen Victoria. She loved being able to go out and be by herself, without being recognized, so she could mingle with ordinary people. To keep from being noticed, the queen would ‘dress down’ and go out all alone. On one of her walks, it began to rain, and she knocked on the door of this old cottage to borrow an umbrella. Not recognizing the queen, the elderly woman who answered the door lent her a beat-up umbrella. The next day, a royal messenger returned the lady’s umbrella and he said, “The Queen asked me to return your umbrella.” The elderly woman was heard to say, “If I had only known who it was, I would have given her my best.” [1]Daily Manna Excerpt, paragraph one. – Saturday 17th December 2022 – Topic: Gains of Hospitality, Text: 3 JOHN 1:1-1

One of the qualities of Jesus in his earthly ministry was how he received and welcomed strangers. Many people, men and women, the young and the old, even children came to him to be blessed one way or the other. They were blessed not only because he ministered to their physical need but because he ministered with love and gave them nothing less. Ordinary men received extraordinary blessings, and natural men received supernatural abilities to live as children of God in this world.

The best gift a man will ever have in this world which will live the test of time and transcend into the world to come, is Jesus. But he’s not just asking anyone to receive him without proofs to show for it. The elderly woman from the story decided to give the queen an umbrella she could do away with, because after all, she was a stranger. But God never responded to our helpless spiritual state in that manner. Though we were counted strangers from the commonwealth of Israel, Gentiles, yet God gave us his best-Jesus, in that “…when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly” (Romans 5:6). His death, burial and resurrection paved the way for humanity to receive the gift of Salvation, but unfortunately, some are not receiving this gift because they count it strange. Mankind has gone far from God that they hardly remember that they came from him and belong to him. They have lost memory of their friendship with God from the Garden of Eden all for sin. Jesus, their God and friend came again in sinful fashion of flesh but without sin to call back his own, but they knew him not.

John gospel chapter 1 tells us that Jesus, the Word was from the beginning. All things were made by him, and all things belongs to him. He made the world and created us to live in it. We ruined it with sin and could not live as we were originally made after that. The same Man drew us a salvation plan and came into the world to give us power again to become who we used to be—the sons of God. So, he came to his own but his own received him not because they knew him not. “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name” vs. 12

The world is still in the spirit of celebration. Celebration of love, and sharing I suppose, but to be sincere, is the world doing it the right way? From what I know Christmas means to the world, it is a time people celebrate the birth of Christ. How a baby was born as a gift to the world. So, I presume, this is what inspires the feeling of love and exchange of gifts. But I think we should look at this experience from the Bible’s perspective.

A Unique Exchange of Love

Matthew 2:1 narrates the story of how three wise men took their journey from the east to Jerusalem. They asked, “Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.”

The three wise men recognized the star and were guided by it until they came to the very spot where the young child was. We understand from the scriptures that these men did not come empty handed, the Bible said they brought gifts with them to present to the Child and those gifts were taken out of their treasure box. It was an exchange of love.  They gave their best in exchange for the best the child has come to give. That was a unique exchange of love, and I think the way to respond to the spirit of Christ is to give back our best to him. That best is our heart, for that is our treasure box.

So, if we are sharing and giving our love and gifts to other things but have not giving back our hearts to Christ in a very personal way, like the three wise men, we have missed the purpose of the season. These men, each of them gave his own gift to the Savior. I bet some of you have already received gifts that you just can’t figure out what to do with it. Yet, you still keep it hoping that it will be useful someday. Jesus Christ is useful every day. Now, tomorrow, forever and even beyond this world, you will still find him very useful. He is the best gift you will ever receive. This is the love of God and full salvation. What do you think? Below are simple steps you can take now to receive a great exchange of love.

Steps to receiving this Gift and experience the great exchange of Love

Understanding that the Son of God has been from the beginning and knows you, should encourage you to believe that you are not dealing with a stranger. He wants to activate your spirit man and produces the evidence of true love and forgiveness by sharing abroad your heart his joy of salvation. He wants to give you life and every good thing you can desire. He is the giver of true wisdom and righteousness.

He makes all things new and beautiful in his time for you. So, the first step to receive Him is.

1. Believe

Believe he has made provision for everything you need right now and everything you’ll ever need, including your eternal destiny. This will happen if you believe and never stop trusting him.

2. Accept

Accept the sacrifice he paid on the cross with his blood just to get closer to you for this special offer. His love for you was so much that even when he came under the heavy weight of your sin at the ninth hour, and cried with a loud voice, yet he never gave up on you.

3. Receive

Receive His Gift by faith. “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.”

4. Confess

Confess him as your Lord. What do you think? When you receive a gift that’s worth it, you’re going to be proud of it, isn’t it.

King David said in Psalms 34:2, “My soul shall make her boast in the Lord: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad”

You need to boast in the Lord indeed because, why not? He’s got everything and has all the solutions to your problem.

5. Continue

Continue to follow him in true holiness and never give up on him as he would not on you. May this season grant you a new heartwarming relationship with God as you make this the moment of your decision to follow the Light until you come to stand face to face before his presence.

If you will like to do so now? He is waiting here.
