The corrupting influence of sin

“Be not deceived: evil communication corrupt good manners.” 1 Corinthians 15:33
“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life” Proverbs 4:23

What is sin? Sin means Satan Imparted Nature

What is the nature of Satan? His nature is defilement

What does it mean to defile? To defile means to spoil, corrupt, make useless, dirty, etc. and that’s the secret the devil will not want to tell anyone when he comes to impart his nature into that person through indulging in sin. The devil knows that defilement, no matter how small it may look is total, that is, it corrupts from the crown of the head to the sole of the foot. Take for instance, a bucket of clean water, when you add a drop or some drops of dirty water into that clean water, the whole water has been defiled. So it is with us. The human heart can be referred to as our fountain of water from which life flows and every actions and decisions we make in life, that is why the bible enjoins us to”Keep [our] heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” Once that heart is corrupted the whole body is as well corrupted and it is sin that corrupts the heart. The bible says in Matthew 15:11 that “Not that which goeth into the mouth (that is, what we eat) defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth (that is, our actions, thoughts, motives, etc), this defileth a man.” So that’s the trick of the devil.

Whenever one deliberately sin no matter how small, the heart have thought of it, accepted it, conceived and decide to do such thing and by so doing the fountain has been corrupted. This is the corrupting influence of sin. It does not matter the part of the body that is responsible for that sin, whether the eyes – looking at what you are not supposed to fix your eyes on, or the hand – carrying or touching what you are not supposed to, or the legs – going to the place where you are not supposed to go, but the whole body has been corrupted

Let’s take warnings and accept every word from the bible as it is the only true source where one can be assured of good and faithful advice from the Lord himself. Let’s not try to be wiser than God by thinking we could do those things the Scriptures clearly warn against and go free or still be clean

Here are some bible evidences of the corrupting influence of sin

“The ox knoweth his owner, and the ass his master’s crib: but Israel doth not know, my people doth not consider. Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters: they have forsaken the LORD, they have provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger, they are gone away backward. Why should ye be stricken anymore? Ye will revolt more and more; the head is sick, and the whole heart faint. From the sole of the foot even unto the head there is no soundness in it” Isaiah 1:3-6

“Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?” 1 Corinthians 5:6

Now that we know that sin corrupts not just the part of the body with which you sinned with but the whole body, we should obey the injunctions in the word of God and not take chances by giving in to suggestions from the devil to do those ‘little’ things, neither should we think ourselves wiser than God but “abstain from all appearance of evil” 1 Thessalonians 5:22

What if you’ve already been defiled or you realized at the course of reading this article that you have been corrupted, is there a way to be made clean again? Sin has a devastating effect on its victim directly or indirectly and it is like the disease of leprosy without cure but thank God someone has the cure and Yes there is a sure way to be completely clean again!

Remember the illustration I gave with the bucket of water? To make that water neat and clean again is not by adding any chemical to it – that’s like adding impurity to impurity. The only remedy is completely pouring out the water in the bucket, wash the bucket and then refill the bucket with a clean water. So to be clean and free from defilement, first Acknowledge – realize that you’ve been corrupted in one way or the other, then, Confess – confess with your own mouth those sins that has corrupted you. Your confession is like pouring out the dirty water in the bucket through the mouth, so confess them. Reject – you won’t want to take in dirty water anymore, will you? So reject those sins you’ve confessed by not going back to them. Finally, Receive – receive the only cure to your sin – Jesus. When you receive him, he comes into your life, washes you with His blood and gives you a clean heart and the enabling grace to go and sin no more. Now you no longer have Satan Imparted Nature (SIN) but the Divinely Imparted Nature which is the nature of God
